| Last updated | 20 August 2026 |
| Effective date | 20 August 2026 |
| Version | 2026.2 |
1. Purpose and Scope
1.1 This Cookie Notice (“Notice”) explains how Sethala (Pty) Ltd (“Sethala”, “we”, “us” or “our”) uses cookies, browser storage, cookieless analytics and similar website technologies on www.sethala.com.
1.2 This Notice applies to Sethala’s public website. It does not describe cookies or similar technologies that may be used within separate customer platforms, third-party websites or services that are governed by their own terms and notices.
1.3 This Notice should be read together with Sethala’s Privacy & Data Protection Notice. To the extent information collected through website technologies constitutes Personal Information, Sethala will Process that information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), applicable law and the Privacy & Data Protection Notice.
1.4 Sethala does not currently use the public website for interest-based advertising or cross-site behavioural advertising.
2. Cookies and Similar Technologies
2.1 Cookies are small data files or identifiers that a website or third-party service may place on or read from a visitor’s device or browser. They can support website functionality, preferences, security, measurement and embedded services.
2.2 Browser storage, including localStorage, is not technically a cookie but can perform a similar preference or storage function. For transparency, this Notice covers both cookies and similar browser technologies.
2.3 Some third-party content embedded in a website, such as an interactive map, may connect directly to the third-party provider when it loads. That provider may receive technical information and may use its own cookies or similar technologies.
3. Technologies Currently Used on the Sethala Website
3.1 As at the effective date of this Notice, the Sethala website uses the following limited set of technologies:
| Technology / category | Purpose | Data / storage / duration |
|---|---|---|
| Theme preference (first-party browser storage) | Remembers a visitor’s light or dark display preference. This uses browser localStorage rather than a traditional cookie. | The preference is stored in the visitor’s browser until it is cleared. It is not intended to identify the visitor. |
| Cookieless website analytics | Helps Sethala understand general website usage and performance, including aggregated information such as page views, referrers and approximate country-level information. | The current configuration does not rely on a persistent analytics cookie and is designed not to perform cross-site behavioural tracking or fingerprinting. Technical information is reduced or anonymised for analytics purposes where configured, and session information is not retained as a persistent browser analytics identifier. |
| Google Maps embedded content (third-party) | Provides interactive map functionality on the Contact page. | When the map loads, Google may receive technical information such as IP, browser or device information and may place or read third-party cookies or similar technologies, depending on Google’s configuration and the visitor’s browser or Google account settings. Google’s own privacy and retention practices apply to its independent Processing. |
4. Why Sethala Uses These Technologies
4.1 Sethala uses the technologies described above only for the purposes relevant to the current website configuration, including remembering display preferences, understanding general website usage and performance, and providing interactive mapping functionality.
4.2 Sethala does not use the current website configuration to build cross-site advertising profiles or to conduct behavioural advertising.
5. Your Choices and Controls
5.1 Most browsers allow visitors to view, block or delete cookies and clear browser storage. The available controls differ between browsers and devices.
5.2 Clearing local browser storage will remove the saved Sethala theme preference. Blocking third-party cookies or third-party content may affect the operation of Google Maps or other embedded content.
5.3 Where a browser communicates a recognised privacy preference such as Do Not Track and the relevant website technology supports that signal, Sethala’s current analytics configuration is intended to respect that preference.
5.4 This Notice does not itself constitute consent. Where applicable law requires consent before a non-essential cookie or similar technology is activated, Sethala will implement an appropriate consent or preference mechanism for that technology.
6. Third-Party Technologies
6.1 Google Maps is provided by Google as an independent third-party service. Sethala does not control Google’s independent cookies, account settings, retention periods or Processing activities.
6.2 Visitors who use or load embedded Google Maps content should review Google’s current privacy and cookie information for details of Google’s Processing.
6.3 A reference to a third-party service in this Notice does not mean that Sethala assumes responsibility for that provider’s independent Processing or guarantees that the provider’s practices will remain unchanged.
7. New or Changed Website Technologies
7.1 Sethala may change its website, analytics configuration, embedded content or other technologies from time to time.
7.2 If Sethala introduces additional non-essential analytics, advertising technologies, tracking pixels, marketing cookies or other material tracking functionality, Sethala will review this Notice and implement additional disclosures, choices or consent controls where required by applicable law.
7.3 The current version of this Notice will be published on the Sethala website and will state its effective or revision date.
